ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF ATOMS AND MOLECULES.

The results of a program of research on the energy levels and electronic structure of atoms and molecules are described. Specific topics of research include 1 electronic structures, correlation effects, and configuration interactions of free atoms, 2 properties of rotational energy levels of molecules including Zeeman effect, 3 magnetic susceptibilities and energy levels of transition element and rare earth element ions in crystals, 4 electron energy band structures of simple crystals by the tight-binding method, 5 determination of the position of the atomic impurity energy levels with respect to the valence band of the host crystals.
