ARGON ION LASER UTILIZING A HOLLOW CATHODE GAS-FED ARC.
Abstract:
Details are given of the construction and operating characteristics of a new type of argon ion laser based on the hollow cathode gas fed arc as an energy source. This device represents a significant improvement over conventional argon ion lasers. It is easy to replace components, and erosion and gas cleanup problems are minimized. Threshold conditions for the 4765, 4880, 4965 and 5145 angstrom lasing lines are given and the effect of electrode geometry, discharge current, pressure and magnetic field are considered. The use of annular discs to confine the arc column is also discussed. Author
