ULTRASONIC PULSE-ECHO SPECTROSCOPY.
Abstract:
Basic requirements for the use of spectroscopic techniques in the field of ultrasonic pulse-echo inspection are discussed. Specialized electronic instrumentation developed for ultrasonic spectroscopy and examples illustrating the practical usefulness of the equipment are described. It is shown that the microstructure of metals, for instance, can be determined on the basis of the spectral signature of the ultrasonic back-echo and that the interpretation of defect indications in terms of actual defect geometry can be improved by spectrum analysis.
