Abstract:

Detailed analysis of the Berg-Barrett pattern of muscovite mica along with results obtained with Lang technique, condensation of water droplets on freshly cleaved surfaces and rocking curve studies in x-ray diffraction, indicate that the layer structure of muscovite is not truly planar, but appears to be corrugated somewhat similar to the layers in antigorite. Localized interference fringes of Newtonian type were observed with x-rays, in muscovite mica samples. Final details concerning twinning, stacking disorder and chemical homogeneity of fluorophlogopite were worked out. Author
