NOISE LEVELS IN WORKING AREA DURING RUN-UPS OF REGULUS II.

An evaluation was made of the extreme and sustained noise levels found during the run-up period of the engines involved in the launching of the guided missile designated as REGULUS II. An analysis of the acoustic energy spectrum encountered is presented. It was found that although extremely high noise levels are generated during the missile run-ups, use of available plug-muff protective devices will permit personnel to work in adjacent work-areas with safety. However, as a precautionary measure, the audiograms of personnel in the missileman rates should be monitored periodically.
