THE IONIZATION POTENTIAL AND HEAT OF FORMATION OF THE HYDROXYMETHYLENE RADICAL.
Abstract:
The ionization potential of the CH2OH radical was determined directly as or 8.14 plus or minus 0.15 eV, giving the heat of formation of the radical as or -8.4 plus or minus 3 kcalmole. This latter value was shown to agree with or values determined indirectly. Calculations were made of the bond dissociation energies in several alcohols, DR-CH2OH, and these indicate that the presently accepted value for the heat of formation of CH2OH may be slightly in error.
