MICROWAVE SIGNAL PROCESSING DEVICES.
Abstract:
The analysis and synthesis of microwave devices which support electromagnetic waves in bounded, uniform, passive media were considered. Initially, work is centered upon signal processing devices which support the classical T.E.M. mode of propagation in a lossless medium. Design and synthesis procedures are presented for microwave constant delay and microwave all-pass networks which consist of commensurate elements and their combination leads to the design of the most general form of network in this category. Realisability conditions are presented for networks consisting of a cascade of non-commensurate transmission lines with lumped two-port networks at the junctions of the lines. This theory relies upon the derivation of a number of theories on multivariable positive real functions. Finally, attention is given to the development of a new theory for microwave devices which support the most general forms of mode propagation in a bounded, uniform, passive medium. The results obtained enable complete propagation characteristics to be determined under steady state sinusoidal excitations with a minimum amount of prior knowledge of the guiding structure. Author
