THEORETICAL-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF VISCOSITY ON WAVE RESISTANCE.

Abstract:

The problem of assessing the effect of viscosity on wave resistance is considered. The approach is to regard the decisive effect of viscosity as stemming from the difference between the measured pressure distribution on the stern and that predicted by inviscid-flow theory. Results based on the linearized theory show that the pressure deficiency at the stern of the body has little or no effect in the determination of wave resistance. Indications are that the pressure distribution around the mid-portion of the body makes the important contribution to wave resistance. Author
