THE EVALUATION OF NON-NARCOTIC PAIN RELIEVERS.

Abstract:

The study seeks to determine whether there exists an agent for the emergency relief of severe pain which does not require control by narcotic laws and regulations, thereby making it suitable for stockpiling in public fallout shelters. Presently only aspirin and aspirin mixtures meet these requirements. Several compounds are under study using morphine as the standard of comparison for pain relieving properties. Among these are Pentazocine and Cyclozocine. Based on indications thus far these compounds are reasonably effective in oral dosage though their side effects must be more thoroughly explored. It is also judged at this point that they need not be subjected to narcotics controls. The study is continuing. Author
