Abstract:

Plaster of Paris filling, in combination with antibiotics, is fully resorbed in the organism. This method of filling bone cavities and bone defects results in speeded up neoplastic bone tissue growth. Regeneration of bone tissue begins quite early, has an intensive course and is completed with the formation of normal bone with restoration of the medullary canal and bone marrow. The periosteum plays the main role in the regeneration. With the use of plaster of Paris filling with antibiotics, a bacteriostatic medium is created in the would which promotes uneventful healing. The therapeutical concentration of penicillin in the blood is maintained over a long period of time. Resorption of the plaster results in prolonged stable hypercalcemia which is favorable for the osteoblastic process, especially in the growing organism. The use of plaster of Paris fillings is expeditious only in such cases in which it is possible to cover the wounds with soft tissue, especially with the periosteum. The plaster promotes quick arrest of hemorrhage inside of the bone cavity. This method is simple, it has a number of merits, is accessible for any surgeons, under any conditions, and may be used for filling of cavities of any shape. Author
