MICROBURST PHENOMENA. 3. AN ASSOCIATION BETWEEN ELECTRON MICROBURSTS AND VLF CHOROUS,

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0660195 | Need Help?

Abstract:

Observations made with the Injun 3 satellite of precipitating Ee or 40 keV electron microbursts and of VLF chorus emission have revealed their simultaneous occurrence. Observed electron microbursts are always accompanied by a group of VLF chorus emissions chorus is not necessarily accompanied by microbursts. The maximum region of microburst occurrence from 0400 or magnetic local time or 1300 and 65 degrees or invariant latitude or 70 degrees lies well within the maximum region of chorus emissions from 0300 or magnetic local time or 1500 and 55 degrees or invariant latitude or 75 degrees. It is not generally possible to find a one to one burst to burst correspondence between individual electron microbursts and VLF chorus bursts. Author
