LOW FREQUENCY INFRARED SPECTRA OF ACETONITRILE AND ACRYLONITRILE DERIVATIVES OF CHROMIUM, MOLYBDENUM AND TUNGSTEN HEXACARBONYLS.
Abstract:
The infrared spectra of the complexes MCO6-n Ln M Cr, W L CH3CN, n 1, 2 L CH2CHCN, n 1 and MCO3CH3CN3 M Cr, Mo, W in the CsBr region were studied. The spectra of WCO6-nCH3CNn n 1, 2, 3 were investigated in the 400-100cm region, and whereas three very weak bands are observed in the spectrum of WCO3CH3CN3 below 265cm, the mono- and disubstituted derivatives exhibit no adsorption bands in the 400-100cm region. For the mono- and disubstituted derivatives, all bands in the 700-265cm region arise from metal-carbon stretching, MCO bending and CCN bending and no metal-nitrogen stretching bands could be assigned. However, for MCO3CH3CN3 metal-nitrogen stretching vibrations are assigned at 552, 495cm Cr 533, 481cm Mo and 538, 489cm W. The bands below 265cm in the spectrum of WCO3CH3CN3 were tentatively assigned to WNC bending modes. Author
