COLD BRITTLENESS AND MAXIMUM PLASTICITY OF METALS IN SHIPBUILDING,
Abstract:
The results of experimental investigations and theoretical correlations on questions of cold brittleness and maximum plasticity of low-carbon and low-alloy steels, used in shipbuilding, are presented. The effect of different factors - temperature, rate of loading, state of stress, size and elastic energy - on cold brittleness and maximum plasticity of metals is analyzed. Results of design tests beams, decks, etc. in static and dynamic loading under conditions of brittle and ductile fractures are presented. A method of evaluating toughness and maximum plasticity of metals in parts and elements of structures is proposed. Author
