Abstract:

Four fabrics from commercial sources and 3 from a contract sample maker were studied as replacements for current nylon ribbed aircraft upholstery cloth for naval airplane seats. The goal was to develop a standard construction upholstery material with improved flame resistance and if possible to reduce the cost per yard. Fabrics of blended fibers, 50 cotton with 50 nylon known as Nyco, did not exhibit the melt drop characteristic of nylon.
