Abstract:

Metallurgic powders are formed into parts and sintered at a temperature lower than the melting temperature of the metal. Only one kilogram of powdered parts is produced for every ton of metal obtained by ordinary means. Powders are used in manufacturing a number of objects resulting in multiplying labor productivity, expanding the circle of machineable materials and obtaining parts of a precise form which do not require dressing on machine tools. Several examples of the economic advantage of powdered metals are cited. The role of fiber metallurgy in comparison with powder metallurgy is given along with requirements for metals which must withstand very high temperature. The possibilities of powdered metals playing a role in the Soviet economy is discussed.
