Abstract:

Picrates of scandium, yttrium, lanthanum, gallium and indium were obtained in the form of various hydrates. The temperatures and conditions of dehydration of picrates of group III elements were determined the melting points and preexplosion temperatures were determined. Lanthanum picrate occasionally exploded prematurely at 240. The data permit the conclusion that groups of elements located under one another in the successive periods of the periodic system produce picrates having a periodically recurring dependence of their initiating temperature ti on the atomic number of the picrate metal. This dependence is displayed by potassium and calcium metals, in which the highest value of ti is shown by the picrate of the second element in the series -- the minimum deviation from this rule is shown by scandium metal in picrates of sodium, copper and silver, magnesium, zinc and cadmium and aluminum, gallium and indium, the elements located in the middle of the set of three show the lowest initiating temperatures. A similar behavior may be observed in triazides.
