Abstract:

The heats of the following reactions were determined calorimetrically at one atmosphere pressure and 25C. Bec Cl2g to alpha-BeCl2c -117.1 plus or minus 0.4 Kcalmole. Alpha-Be3N2c 3Cl2g to 3alpha -BeCl2c N2g -210.3 plus or minus 1.1 Kcalmole. Beta-Be3N2c 3Cl2g to 3alpha-BeCl2c N2g -214.6 plus or minus 0.8 Kcalmole. 3Bec 2NH3g to alpha-Be3N2c 3H2g -118.4 plus or minus 0.3 Kcalmole. These data and the value for the heat of formation of ammonia -11.04 Kcalmole enable the following standard heats of formation to be derived. Alpha-BeCl2 -117.1 plus or minus 0.4 Kcalmole. Alpha-Be3N2 -141.0 plus or minus 1.6 Kcalmole, or -140.5 plus or minus 0.3 Kcalmole. Beta-Be3N2 -136.7 plus or minus 1.5 Kcalmole. Author
