THE USE OF A DEEP-WATER GAMMA RADIOMETER FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF RADIOACTIVITY IN THE OCEAN
Abstract:
There was created an original automatic deep-water gamma-radiometer with a sensitivity threshold of 2 x 10 to the -10th power curie, intended for the measurement of total natural radioactivity ra at the maximum depths of the oceans of the world. During measurements of the gamma- background of the depths of the central and northern parts of the Indian Ocean in 1960, there was not found any increase in the ra level exceeding the natural level by more than 2-3 times.
