ACCURACY AND CALIBRATION REQUIREMENTS OF OSCILLOSCOPE RECORDING SYSTEMS.
Abstract:
The accuracy requirements for oscilloscope systems used to record transient pressures from underwater explosions are investigated. Systems and record reading accuracies are analyzed in detail to establish some basic requirements for calibration accuracies. The requirements are vertical calibration Q-step, 0.5 percent horizontal calibration time marks, 0.015 percent. The time of rise and the decay time are defined for the Q-step graphs and equations are developed for each. Actual experimental arrangements are considered to determine an acceptable range for the internal resistance of the Q-step generator and to show how the limits for the Q-step sweep speed should be found. The specifications for a Q-step generator are given and the merits of several circuits and techniques are discussed. A procedure for reading the Q-step record is included. Author
