THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF DIPENTENE PLATINUM (II) CHLORIDE.
Abstract:
The crystal structure of dipentene platinum II chloride was determined by single-crystal methods. The orthorhombic unit cell, a 10.188, b 7.992, c 14.401 A, space group P21cn, contains four monomeric molecules. The coordination about Pt is planar square with the two Cl atoms occupying cis positions. The two double bonds of the olefin occupy the remaining two coordination positions. The two planes defined by the two double bonds and their attached atoms are oriented perpendicularly to the Pt-Cl plane and to the Pt dsp squared orbitals. The axis of one of the double bonds is perpendicular to the Pt-Cl plane, but the other one is tilted to make a 62 degree angle with the plane. Author
