DESIGNING TO PREVENT FATIGUE FAILURES,
Abstract:
There are three main problem areas in preventing fatigue failures prediction of the fluctuating stresses that cause fatigue, behavior of the structural material undergoing these stresses, and scatter in stresses encountered in service and in fatigue behavior. This paper concentrates on these major problem areas. The data most important for design, and some techniques for using these data, are presented and discussed. The designers role in selecting the fatigue problems that should be studied is emphasized. Author
