VASO-PRESSIN BIOSYNTHESIS.
Abstract:
The objectives of the research were to study in vivo and in vitro a number of processes concerned with the biosynthesis, storage, and release of vasopressin. Previous experimental data suggested the possibility that the biosynthesis of vasopressin occurs in a bound, biologically inactive form and that the release of hormone takes place during the formation and maturation of the neurosecretory particles. Data have now been obtained which are consistent with such a precursor model for vasopressin biosynthesis. The in vitro systems, capable of carying out the biosynthesis and release of vasopressin, offer a considerable number of possibilities for studies concerned with the neurosecretory process.
