THREE BRANCHES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE RESEARCH.
Abstract:
This paper outlines three current approaches to the problems of artificial intelligence research--simulation of human behavior in human-like ways achievement of efficient problem-solving behavior using techniques and procedures not necessarily like those used by humans and improvement in the relationship between man and machine by an alteration in the division of labor between the two and by advances in manmachine communication. Examples are given of artificial-intelligence systems embodying the underlying principles of each branch. Some of the problems that remain to be solved in artificial intelligence research are specified. Author
