DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF AIRBORNE RADIO INTERFERENCE LOCATOR.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0609326 | Need Help?

Abstract:

This report describes engineering effort to develop an airborne system to detect, identify, and locate sources of radio frequency interference to FAA air navigation aids. Major design decisions are described and the final feasibility equipment is described in detail. Results of initial test flights are tabulated. The RFI detection and location system is designed to operate over the VOR-VHF communications, glide slope, and TACAN frequency bands. Groups of scanning receivers and a display console permit a panoramic display of radio frequency spectrum of the bands of interest. Pairs of direction-finding antennas are included in the system to provide a capability of homing on emitters of undesired signals to obtain their location. This information may be recorded and used by ground vans for later final location. Results of initial flight tests indicate that the system will locate a target emitter well within the design goal.
