SPHERICAL REFLECTOR FABRY-PEROT RESONATORS AT CENTIMETER WAVELENGTHS.
Abstract:
Resonators consisting of a single concave spherical reflector and a plane reflecting surface separated by distances up to the radius of curvature of the spherical reflector are considered. The purpose was to investigate the possibility of extending the theory of the spherical mirror Fabry-Perot resonator to wavelengths in the X-band region. A spherical mirror Fabry-Perot Interferometer Fabry-Perot Spherique was designed, constructed, and operated. Measurements were made at wavelengths between 8.2-12.4 Gc where microwave equipment was conveniently available. Preliminary measurements of the microwave performance of a spherical plate FP Interferometer are presented and compared with theory. The major part of the experimental program was devoted to demonstrating the feasibility of building an acceptable cavity at such relatively long wavelengths 3 cm and to showing that the predicted theoretical results can be achieved in practice.
