Abstract:

The basic conversion problems are introduced and methods of solving these problems suggested. The topics selected for study are picosecond pulse generation, gigabit logic circuits, and quantization circuits which are fundamental to the needs of most conversion systems. The component parts of the system are discussed in conjunction with performance calculations and a sound circuit approach is recommended. A generalized diode model is developed which is then simulated on the analog computer. Comparisons are given between computer solutions and experimental results. Transient response solutions of picosecond pulse generator circuits are obtained on the analog computer by using the diode model for all diodes in the network. The design of a triplate tester is given with experimental results from a sampling oscilloscope which show good correlation with the analytical results. Then, two one-gigabit shift register circuit arrangements are synthesized on the analog computer and solutions for network variables given. Finally, the design of a triplate tester is discussed and the test results showing good operational margins at a one-gigabit rate are given.
