MACHINABILITY OF BERYLLIUM.
Abstract:
Machinability data are defined specifically for the manufacture and processing of turbine engine components made of beryllium material. Block pressed and forged beryllium forgings Be 3.2 BeO, being acceptable to machining damage, were critically investigated for the degree of damage caused by conventional and non-conventional machining practices. Turning and milling operations induced surface damage to excessive to be classified as finishing operations grinding and electro-chemical machining experiments produced surfaces qualifiable for the manufacture of turbine engine components. Complete documentation of experiments are included along with recommendations and conclusions. Author
