ADVANCED THIN-FILM SOLAR CELLS.
Abstract:
During this quarter, an investigation of the film growth technique, the film properties, and their correlation with cell characteristics was conducted in an attempt to improve the efficiency and reproducibility of the thin-film cells. A substrate precoat of 100-Angstroms Sn and 100-Angstroms Ge appears to be near optimum for the vertical furnace as presently operated. The growth process in the horizontal furnace was apparently dominated by water vapor absorbed in the graphite boat. The GaAs film growth process is thought to be one of precipitation from a liquid alloy solution. Grid spreading problems have been eliminated by improved evaporation masking. Author
