Abstract:

Compositional studies described in the First Quarterly Report were continued. Two different tasks are discussed 1 The improvement of the resonant frequency-temperature characteristics, frT, characteristics of the zero coefficient materials, compositions ranging from Pb0.60Ba0.40Nb206 to Pb0.54Ba0.46Nb206. These were synthesized by making blends of the calcined single phase end members. The object being to attain the appropriate balance of phases in the final specimen to yield a flat frT characteristic. 2 The substitution of Sr for Ba in Pb0.70Ba0.30Nb206 was made to this high Qm composition to improve the frT characteristics by increasing the Curie temperature. Problems in repeating Qm compositions impeded this study. A computer program for calculation and tabulation of results from experimental data was developed. Author
