Abstract:

Optical, dielectric and mechanical properties of alkaline earth fluorides and lead halides have been studied. Purification and growing methods for these crystals and their solid solutions have been established. Crystals were grown from the melt and CaF2 also from the vapor phase. The influence of impurities, contamination during growing, and irradiation on the optical properties has been studied. Properties of pressed material Irtran 2 have been compared with those of single crystals of CaF2. Absorption edges of lead halides in the ultraviolet and infrared regions have been determined. The microhardness of CaFeBrF2 and SrF2-BaF2 mixed crystals has been determined as a function of composition, and in PbCl2 and PbBr2 as a function of crystallographic direction. Author
