THE EFFECT OF EDTA ON THE EXTENT OF TISSUE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE VENOMS OF BOTHROPS ATROX (FER-DE-LANCE) AND AGKISTRODON PISCIVORUS (COTTONMOUTH MOCCASIN)
Abstract:
Snakebite may produce a systemic as well as local effect. Hemorrhage and tissue necrosis are the local effects of the venoms of the cottonmouth moccasin and the fer-de-lance. The chelating agent EDTA injected immediately following and in the area of envenomation greatly reduces the local effects of these particular venoms.
