Abstract:

A shrouded propeller is studied with the application of suction to the control of the centrifugal separation which occurs in flows on the curved walls. Results based on a simple technique for delineating the nature of this flow are given in the form of flow pictures. The flow is illustrated by allowing a dye, dissolved in a high vapor pressure solvent, to flow out of a plate affixed to the curved wall. Separation is clearly shown. This technique should prove valuable for analyzing the flow into ducted propellers or ducted fans, especially those yawed to the flow, such as ducted fan VTOL aircraft or fan in wing devices. Author
