FLUID RESISTANCE OF RESIN BONDED SOLID FILM LUBRICANTS.
Abstract:
In order to make recommendations to design engineers, data concerning the adhesion of resin bonded, solid film lubricants, operating in the environment of various fluids, is necessary. The solid film lubricants tested in this program were Electrofilm 66C, Electrofilm 2006, Everlube 620, and Molykote X-106. These films were tested in fluid environments of JP-4 fuel, MIL-L-7808 synthetic base lubricating oil, MIL-L-7870 petroleum base lubricating oil, MIL-H-5606 petroleum base hydraulic fluid, and Dow Corning 710 silicone fluid. The solid film coated test cups were tested on the MacMillan tester, utilizing a 630 lb normal force on the bearing surface, and rotary motion at 66 rpm. None of the bearings tested survived the required 200,000 cyles necessary for passing, regardless of the fluid in which they were tested. Author
