Abstract:

This study investigates the operational limitations and capabilities of the UH-1B, UH1D and CH47A helicopters in general. These are then interpreted in terms of the feasibility of using these aircraft and their capability to transport the LANCE missile and the light weight LANCE firing element to a maximum mission radius. The determination of maximum attainable mission radii has been simplified through the design, explanation, and use of nomograms, all of which are presented herein. In the conduct of this study two basic missions are considered Mission I specifies that either a LANCE missile or a launcher payload be transported externally to a maximum radial distance and the aircraft return to the point of origin without the payload. Mission II specifies that the LANCE missile and or launcher payload be transported to a maximum radial distance the aircraft landed the missile fired and the aircraft, launcher and missile firing crew be returned to the mission origin.
