CERAMIC TO METAL SEALS FOR HIGH-TEMPERATURE THERMIONIC CONVERTERS
Abstract:
This report covers work to develop improved ceramic to metal seals for use in thermionic converters. The objective of this program is to develop seals which are capable of long life at 1500 C in cesium and vacuum environments, and to extend the sealing techniques developed to materials which are capable of long life at temperatures in excess of 1500 C. Studies are being performed to develop improved methods of sealing both metallized and unmetallized ceramic members to refractory metals. Associated work on ceramics, refractory metal alloys and ceramic metal composites to provide useful base material characteristics will be carried on as the re quirements of the project may dictate.
