Abstract:

Estimates of the major effectiveness characteristics of the subject rounds were made. It was found that the subject rounds are about equal in performance against solid armor, both being capable of defeating over 7 inches of armor at 60 deg obliquity. The theoretical maximum effectiveness against personnel targets was found to be about 15 greater for the HEP projectile against both prone and standing targets at a 2-foot burst height and 0 deg angle of fall ricochet fire. The HEP round can produce equivalent levels of blast damage over areas about twice that of the HEAT-MP round. The HEAT-MP round has first-round hit probabilities of .80 and .46 at 500 and 1,000 yards, respectively, while the HEP round equivalent values are .72 and .37. Author
