SEPARATION AND FREE FLIGHT TESTS OF 1000-LB GP BOMB MK 83 MOD 2 WITH AND WITHOUT MECHANICAL NOSE FUZE RELEASED FROM A3D AIRCRAFT WITH AERO 7A BOMB RACK
Abstract:
The observed range, time of fall, and deflection are compared with the ballistic data given in available bombing tables for the subject bombAND FOR THE OBSERVED RELEASE AND ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS. 25 of the bombs with nose plug or with ANM103A mechanical nose fuze and F740 tail fuze will fly with excessive yaw. Unstable flight makes this bomb with nose plug and fuzes unsuitable for service use with A3D aircraft equipped with Aero 7A ejector rack using current service cartridges. It is recommended that ejection force be applied at the center of gravity or cartridges which impart a reduced ejection force be used when ejecting the MK 83 bomb. Author
