PILOT PRODUCTION AND EVALUATION OF TANTALUM ALLOY SHEET
Abstract:
The primary purpose of this program is to conduct detailed studies of the properties and processing of Ta rich alloys in the Ta-W-Hf system. An initial portion of the program will consist of establishing base line properties on the Ta-8W-2Hf alloy. Physical and mechanical properties will be evaluated on the basis of 1 Tensile properties -452 to 3500F 2 Stress rupture properties 1 to 10 hrs at 2400 and 3000F 3 Recrystallization 4 Thermal expansio 5 Hot hardness 6 Weldability. Melting and processing of 3-inch diameter alloy ingots to sheet is described in detail. Preliminary elevated and low temperature mechanical properties are given.
