INORGANIC BINDERS FOR ''C'' CORES
Abstract:
Sample cores were constructed with an inorganic binder by fusing a very thin layer of glass to the surfaces of magnetic steel strips and winding the composite until the required build-up was obtained. During the requisite stress relief anneal, a laminar bond between the adjacent glassy layers was accomplished. The binder, having a composition in the system Na2O.xRO2. 3-xSiO2, RO2 being ZrO2 and TiO2, did not degrade the magnetic properties of the cores although it probably induced a residual tensile stress in the steel. Room temperature tests before aging were performed and the core loss and excitation values at 15 kilogausses are given. Author
