BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE STEROID GLYCOSIDES FROM HOLOTHURIANS
Abstract:
Published reports show that the crude holothurin derived from the Cuvierian tubules of the Bahamian sea-cucumber Actinopyga agassizi has a wide variety of biological properties, including an irreversible blocking action on nerve, interference in the se uential developmental processes of the sea-urchin egg, and inhibition of certain tumors in mice. The published paper appended to this report summarizes the effects of holothurin on various biological systems and also includes a bibliography of the several papers published on this subject. Author
