THE EQUATORIAL ORBIT OF A NEAR-EARTH SATELLITE
Abstract:
The orbit of a near-earth satellite is described by finite equations x equals xt, y equals yt, z equals zt which closely approximate the position of the satellite. Various sets of approximate equations were proposed by various authors but in no case has it been possible to establish rigorous error bounds for these solutions. This is true even when the only non-inverse-square force is due to the oblateness of the earth. Realistic and strict numerical error bounds for an approximate solution are given. Special though this case is, a complete error analysis may have some interest. Author
