NUTRITIONAL EVALUATION OF A NORMAL MILITARY POPULATION
Abstract:
Studies were conducted at four military installations including Fitzsimons General Hospital, Fort Carson, Lowry Air Force Base and Buckley Naval Air Station. Information on age, heights, body weights, blood pressures and skinfold thickness measurements at four sites, were collected on 4174 enlisted men. In addition, chemical analyses were performed on approximately 800 bloods and urines. Blood analyses included hemoglobin, hematocrits, plasma proteins, vitamin C, vitamin A, carotene, total cholesterol, total lipids and phospholipids. In the urine the vitamin excretions of thiamine, riboflavin and N1methylnicotinamide were computed per gram of creatinine excreted. Data were summarized by age groups and compared to the ICNND and other normal standards.
