TRANSPORT AIRCRAFT COCKPIT VOICE RECORDING
Abstract:
Tests were conducted utilizing three aircraft, a C-131, a DC-3, and a Grumman Gulfstream, to determine the most desirable method for recording crew conversations as an aid to accident investigation. Currently available area and individual pickup-type microphones were employed. The application of electronic noise-filtering and noise-cancelling techniques was investigated for improving the intelligibility of the recorded voice. It was concluded that the recording of crew conversation in transport aircraft utilizing area pickup-type microphones is feasible. Author
