THE SYSTEM CALCIUM PEROXIDE-CALCIUM OXIDE-OXYGEN
Abstract:
The peroxidation of lime to CaO2 was studied as a possible step in the commercial production of H2O2. Experiments were made with commercial grade CaO2, which averaged about 60 CaO2 initially, and with high-purity 90 to 95 CaO2 at O pressures of 1000 and 1525 psia. The equilibrium temperatures of the CaO-CaO2-O system for these 2 pressures were determined to be 106 deg or - 2 deg C and 111 deg or - C, respectively. Only traces of CaO2 were formed from CaO and O. The experimental results were concluded to indicate that the equilibrium relationships of this system are not favorable for the peroxidation of lime.
