Abstract:
This report provides a basic introduction to additive manufacturing technology and its capabilities and limitations with respect to Coast Guard application. It includes a brief summary of the different methods, materials, and design consideration for additive manufacturing. This report includes a review of recent 3D printing efforts within the Coast Guard. It also provides the results of an RDC-sponsored 3D printer evaluation. The evaluation consisted of field units evaluating various types of 3D printers to determine how they can be used to support Coast Guard missions. Recommendations are also made for the wider application of additive manufacturing in the Coast Guard.
