Abstract:

The condition of Vehicle Directorate asset lubricant conditions was investigated. The technical feasibility of using portablelubricant analyzers to monitor vehicle asset crankcase lubricant conditions for a fifteen month period was also investigated. Allassets utilized the lubricant charge that existed in the vehicle. Over the course of the study the portable analyzers appearedsufficiently accurate for monitoring lubricant viscosity for degradation when compared to ASTM laboratory test results, and formonitoring fuel dilution. Recommending tracking engine hours AND mileage routinely so that Vehicle Directorate assets canhave their oil change intervals based on utilization instead of just mileage.
