Title:
India's Engagement with Iran and Global Stability
Report Date:
2015-04-24
Abstract:
Historically, India and Iran have had close relations with each other. Despite India's support of UN sanctions against Iran, the relationship between the two countries remains cordial, especially in comparison to the tensions between Iran and the West, the US in particular. The improvement in India's strategic relationship with the US creates an opportunity for India to involve itself in resolving the Iranian nuclear crisis, and to contribute towards regional and global stability. India can work along with the West to make the Iranian program for nuclear enrichment more transparent, engage Iran on regional issues such as the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and impede the establishment of the Russia China-Iran axis. This study focuses on finding out how India can engage Iran positively to resolve the nuclear issue, and contribute significantly towards global peace and stability.
