Title:
Liquid Security: Security Implications of Water Scarcity in China
Report Date:
2015-04-27
Abstract:
Water scarcity poses a significant security concern in China. Issues with availability and pollution compound the problem, especially in regards to industry and agriculture. While the Chinese government has tried several initiatives to correct the water scarcity issue, such as the Three Gorges Dam, the South-North Water Transfer Project, and the Chinese Water Laws, the lack of agreements with neighboring nations regarding water use has the potential to cause interstate conflict, especially with India and Pakistan.
