Abstract:

A series of typical component hydrocarbons present in aviation gasoline has been synthesized and then subjected to accelerated oxidation at 100C. for 24 hours. The oxygen pressure was 100 pounds guage at 25C. at the beginning of the test. At the end of that time the treated materials were examined chemically and spectroscopically for evidence of instability and gum formation. A few hydrocarbons such as isooctane, bensenc, cyclohezane, and cyclopentane were table. But the majority of the benzenoid and cyclic saturated hydrocarbons absorbed oxygen to a greater or less degree.
