Title:
Modeling Reconstruction as a Wargame, 1865-1877
Report Date:
2021-06-18
Abstract:
This study attempts to fill the current gap in wargames covering the Reconstruction Era, and addresses the similarities between historical asymmetric warfare and those encountered by Soldiers over the last two decades. In taking on the role of both active and passive participants in the struggle, players will gain an appreciation of how different policy goals can lead to complex interactions between allies and enemies. By the end of the game, players should be able to understand the historical context and major events of the Reconstruction era, the ability of asymmetric conflicts to execute policy goals below the level of organized, armed conflict, and draw parallels with contemporary asymmetric conflicts world wide.
